NARRATIVE WRITING

One thing that I created over the course of working on my narrative was a heart map. The development of this helped me reflect on the things that I love doing or being around and are things that I could write about. This is a writing process method that can be used with students who may struggle with finding a topic to write about or are hesitant to write. In my writing time, I would love to focus some time on helping my students come up with their own Heart Maps with the things that mean the most to them. I made mine in my own Writer's Notebook, which my students would each have to work in. This process was used at the start of the narrative genre study, and helped me with my Memoir piece. After, I drafted my narrative, I revised my piece using Atwell's memoir characteristics. The characteristics in this article helped me see where I need to focus on or what areas was a strength of mine. When I teach writing, my students will get to write about things that interest them and create their own memoirs, through a similar process. Working through the narrative genre, I found myself reflecting on the process of creating my memoir and my thoughts on how I would teach this genre to my future students.
